What is Get ePrepared?
Get ePrepared is a free online self-help tool that helps Australians prepare for disasters by learning how to safely store electronic copies of their important documents.
When disasters strike, legal problems often follow. People may need proof of identity, property ownership, insurance, or financial records to recover and access support. If these documents are lost or damaged, it can make an already difficult situation much harder.
Get ePrepared helps people take simple steps now to protect their documents and be better prepared for emergencies.
How the tool helps
Get ePrepared coaches people through the process of creating and storing electronic copies of their important documents.
The tool helps users:
- understand which documents are important to store
- choose a safe digital storage option
- learn how to create and save electronic copies of documents

The information is available in step-by-step instructions, downloadable guides and audio formats so people can learn at their own pace.

Building digital inclusion and resilience
Get ePrepared was developed in partnership with Telstra to help people prepare for disaster-related legal issues before they arise.
Many Australians, particularly older people, people in regional areas and those with limited digital skills, can face barriers using online services. The tool focuses on practical, easy steps that help people build confidence using technology while improving their disaster preparedness. We designed Get ePrepared using a trauma-informed, co-design approach with input from community members with a lived experience of disasters.
