In July 2025, Justice Connect provided a submission to the Australian Government’s Economic Reform Roundtable.

Our submission focuses on the role of the not-for-profit sector in driving productivity, economic resilience and inclusive growth, and examines how current tax and regulatory settings impact the sector’s ability to contribute to these national priorities.

We centre our submission on the Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) system, identifying it as a key structural barrier to philanthropic giving and sector sustainability. We call for reform to simplify and modernise the system, which is currently overly complex and excludes many charities from accessing tax-deductible donations and philanthropic funding. Reforming the DGR system is critical to unlocking greater investment in the not-for-profit sector, supporting innovation, and enabling charities to contribute more effectively to Australia’s economic and social outcomes.
