Planning for older age can be difficult to talk about. Many people are unsure where to start, what decisions they need to make, or how to have these conversations safely with the people they trust. Justice Connect’s Conversation Guides project helps change that.

The guides support older people and the communities around them to think about their future, talk about their wishes, and take early steps to protect their rights, safety and independence as they age. They are designed to be practical, accessible and supportive, helping people navigate conversations about everyday life, finances, and end-of-life healthcare.

Developed as part of our work to prevent elder abuse and improve access to legal help, the Conversation Guides bring legal information into community settings. They help people understand the importance of planning ahead and encourage meaningful discussions that can lead to stronger protections and informed legal decisions.

The guides are used by individuals, community groups, and service providers, often in facilitated sessions, to build confidence and start conversations that might otherwise feel too hard to begin. They are available in multiple languages and tailored for different communities to ensure they are inclusive and relevant.

By supporting people to plan early and make their wishes known, the Conversation Guides project strengthens autonomy, reduces risk, and helps ensure older people can live the life they choose as they age.
