Are you a supporter of a charity without DGR?

You can help us Unlock DGR for Australian charities

Thousands of charities doing critical work in Australian communities are locked out of accessing tax‑deductible donations because of an outdated Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) system.

This limits their ability to meet rising community need.

You can help change this.

Your voice, whether you’re a donor, volunteer, supporter, or community member, can help show Federal MPs that strong public backing exists for a fairer, more modern system.

Why your voice matters

Stronger charities mean stronger communities

When charities can’t access tax‑deductible donations, they can struggle to deliver services that many people rely on.

Philanthropy wants to give more

There is more than $11 billion in philanthropic funds across Australia. Much of it doesn’t reach the charities that need it due to the outdated DGR system.

Momentum is building. Now is the time to act

The Productivity Commission’s Future Foundations for Giving report outlines a clear, evidence-based pathway to simplify the DGR system so that most charities are eligible for DGR endorsement.

Dear [local MP] [copied to Treasurer and Assistant Minister Leigh],

I am writing as a community member and supporter of [local charities/specific charity] to ask for your support in reforming Australia’s Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) system.

Many charities doing essential work in our community cannot access tax‑deductible donations because they do not qualify for DGR status under outdated rules. This makes it much harder for them to raise funds, plan for the future, and respond to community needs.

I have seen the impact these organisations make, and I know how much our community relies on them. When they can’t access tax‑deductible donations, they can face real challenges in keeping services going, especially at a time of rising demand and higher operating costs.

The Productivity Commission’s Future Foundations for Giving report outlines a clear, evidence-based pathway to simplify the DGR system so that most charities are eligible for DGR endorsement. This would help level the playing field, make fundraising fairer, and ensure that philanthropic funding can reach the organisations doing important work on the ground.

There are billions of dollars in philanthropic funds in Australia, but many charities cannot access them because they are excluded under the current rules. Reforming the DGR system would unlock this support and help strengthen our community.

I am supporting Justice Connect’s Unlock DGR campaign (justiceconnect.org.au), and I ask that you support a simpler and fairer DGR system.

Thank you for considering this important issue. I encourage you to meet with local charities in our community to hear directly about how DGR reform would help them continue their work.

Kind regards,
[Your name]
