We’re striking for climate

“I want you to act like you would in a crisis,” says 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg.

Answering Greta Thunberg’s call to join the fight against climate change, we’re taking a stand for climate justice. On September 20, three days out from the UN’s Emergency Climate Summit, Justice Connect is joining hundreds of organisations in the Global Climate Strike.

The current climate emergency is set to affect our most vulnerable clients. We can’t call ourselves a fair community when we stand by in the face of catastrophic climate change.

We know that climate change will impact many of our clients first and worst. Heatwaves, droughts and storms are a threat to our community’s wellbeing, and the wellbeing of our clients. 50,000 people are on the public housing waiting list in Victoria alone, and even more face housing insecurity. As the planet warms, these people face growing risks to their health and wellbeing. Climate change will impact every aspect of life – from food and energy security to water shortages and access to basic medical assistance.

Now is the time to act. Now is the time to transition to clean, renewable energy. We’re calling on our government to take action on climate change and to mitigate its impacts on our communities.

Climate change poses an existential threat that we must confront as a community. We can’t stand by as the impacts of climate change devastate our planet and our communities. In fighting for a stronger and fairer community Justice Connect recognises the importance of tackling Climate Change. Together, we can take a stand to deal with climate change.
