Help us understand how you use self-help resources

Justice Connect is looking for people living in Victoria to help us understand how people use our free self-help resources to address their legal problems.

If you’ve used one of our self-help resources recently, or in the past, we’d love to hear from you! We’re trying to understand how you use online legal information, so we can make our resources more helpful.

We want to talk to a diverse range of people who have used our online resources recently. We’re interested in how you used our self-help resources, what parts were most helpful, and what you did next.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from:

Single parents
People living with a disability
People with chronic illnesses
People with mental illnesses
People who speak English as a second language
People who may be considered digitally excluded
Anyone who lives in a regional, rural, or remote community

If you are selected to participate in our research, you will be reimbursed for your time.

Why sign up to our research project?

By signing up to the project you can help us improve and self-help resources for people just like you by:

Completing an online survey to tell us about your experience
Completing tasks and activities online from home
Sharing your experiences and opinions over a confidential phone or video call

We value your time and will reimburse you for participating.

After you register your interest, you may be selected to complete one or two surveys or an online task. You will receive $25.00 for your time, at the completion of the short survey or task. The survey or task is expected to take about 20 minutes to complete.

If you are selected for an interview, you will receive $100.00 for your time, at the completion of the interview. The interviews will take approximately 90 minutes.

How do I sign up?

If you’re interested in participating in our research, simply fill out this short registration form and we’ll be in touch via email on whether you have been selected to participate.

What happens after you sign up?

Once you’ve filled in the survey, you may need to wait a little while until we can go through all the responses and select the right mix of participants.

If you are selected to take part in the project, we will email you with more instructions about the next steps, whether that’s an online survey or an interview.

What is the time commitment?

If you are selected to take part in the project, the time commitment will be:

Roughly 20 minutes if you’re asked to complete a survey or a series of online tasks. We will send you a link to the survey or tasks to complete, which you can complete in your own time. There will be guides to support you through these tasks if needed, and we’ll be here for any questions you may have.
Roughly 90 minutes if you’re asked to participate in an interview. There may be a short activity we ask you to do to prepare for our chat, and then we’ll arrange a time to talk with you via a phone or video call.

Can I still join if I don’t live in Victoria?

At this stage, we’re looking to speak to people living in Victoria, who are over the age of 18.

We welcome expressions of interest from anyone who lives in Victoria, especially if you are from a regional, rural, or remote community. All the research activities will be conducted online or over the phone, so there is no need to travel.

What part of your self-help resources would I have to have looked at?

We wanting to talk to people who have used one of our self-help resources on any of the following topics:

Work and employment
Information about attending court
Changing your name
Future planning (including how to make documents such as a power of attorney)
Money-related problems (such as receiving a default notice, or bankruptcy)
Problems relating to disasters (such as bushfires or floods)
Problems to do with builders or domestic buildings
